Rozman (Musgrave Professor of Sociology, Princeton; Russia and East Asia: The 21st Century Security Environment) has edited 16 papers by various authors who are either directly involved with or who have studied Russo-Japanese relations. For more than 40 years, these relations have been the poorest between any two industrialized countries. At the conclusion of World War II, the Soviet Union was allowed to annex the northern islands in the Kuriles (Chishima in Japanese), and negotiations to settle the territorial dispute began at the San Francisco Conference in 1951. Though various periods seemed like the "right time" to settle the dispute, each passed without a resolution. Japan's relations with the United States and with China, as well as U.S. relations with China, have further complicated the issue. This book features mild disagreement between Japanese and Russian contributors about visits of Gorbachev and Yeltsin to Japan in the 1990s. As usual, books by committee have strengths and weaknesses: there is a richness of opinion but a slight unevenness in writing style and ability. About the Author
Leanne Simpson is a researcher, writer, and educator of Mississauga and Scottish ancestry. She is a member of the gidigaa bzhiw dodem and a citizen of the Nishnaabeg nation. Leanne holds a PhD from the University of Manitoba and is the past director of Indigenous Environmental Studies at Trent University. Her research interests include Indigenist theory and methodology, Indigenous political cultures and traditional governance, Nishnaabeg women, Indigenous Knowledge, and Indigenous philosophies on land and the environment. Leanne currently teaches at the Centre for World Indigenous Knowledgeat Athabasca University and has previously taught at Trent University, the University of Victoria, the University of Manitoba, and Tampere University in Finland.

Very Nice.

I really like this book. I got it for my one year old (confession, it's for both of us) and was pleasantly surprised at the artwork. I love Charlie Harper and I'm hoping it will transpire to my little guy. My only problem with the book is that it's too short. I guess if it was bigger, though, it would be too heavy for kids.

Vibrant Colors, Stimulating Illustrations

I received a copy of Colors from the publisher for review.

My three-year-old daughter and I read this one together. She is just learning to read and mastering all the different colors. The illustrations are vibrant and very visually pleasing. I love how the text is in the color as well, to help the child recognize the color name. The prose is easy for a beginning reader with a few more challenging words tossed in to help build vocabulary. My daughter wanted to read it over and over again!

I definitely recommend this one for toddler/preschool readers!
